ADVICE FOR KIDS
First, of course, we urge you to get with our PGA professional. If you have a chance to watch a good player or golf tournament on television,  you can learn a lot. However, it is best to get instruction before you learn bad habits. The following basic fundamentals are important in learning to swing and play. You  should review these four fundamentals constantly.

THE STANCE

The stance in golf is similar to other sport athletic positions. Feet are spread shoulder width apart. Knees bent SLIGHTLY. Bend forward from the hips until club is on the ground. Weight even on both feet; front to back, left to right.

THE GRIP

First, point the clubface toward the target and take a handshake-like grip just below the handle with the left hand. Right hand goes below the left, and over the left thumb. To check your palms should be facing each other and the V's of your thumb and forefinger point toward your right side. Tip Hold the club lightly and try to keep this same pressure during the swing.

SET UP-AIM

You must learn to aim both the club and your body. First make sure the club is pointing toward the target, keeping the club and clubface at right angles to your body. Then you can position your body so that you are parallel to an imaginary line (target line) from the ball to the target.

THE SWING

The golf swing is a circular motion that is made up of two motions; one motion going back (backswing) and one motion going forward (forward swing) to a finish position. You should swing the club back until your back is facing the target and swing in the direction of the target until your chest is facing left of the target (finish position) to check. The proper swing will make a WHOOSH sound near the ball area and result in a balanced finish position.

GOLF SKILLS - PUTT, CHIP & PITCH

The skills in golf are really different length swings with different lofted clubs. To make these shots, think of swinging in a click. Swing back and forth the same distance for each skill. A 7 to 5 or 8 to 4 would be used for Putting and Chipping. A 9 to 3 swing would be used for pitching. Putting is a special skill used on the green to roll the ball into the cup and is done with a special club (little loft) using a short swing length. Bunker shots are swings made in the sand where the objective is to hit the sand (not the ball) and the ball flies out with the sand.
